The Nintendo Wii, a gaming console you hook to your TV, became a runaway success since its release two years ago. About 9 months after its release, Nintendo released its wildly successful and popular Wii Fit with balance board. The balance board does a fantastic job of measuring balance, weight, center of gravity and more.

In the CNN article I linked below, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security may employ the Nintendo Wii to test how fidgety a passenger is…thus indicating the need for further screening. The Wii isn’t the only new device being tested. You can read about the other experimental screening options being tested in the full article linked here:

  1. Haha, no way. Actually, I think a majority of people would be shitting their pants since they would get all nervous. Then what? 10 ppl get held for suspicion?

…unless! They use reverse psychology… the ones who DON’T shake or are nervous must def be up to something.

Hmmm…either you are over-thinking the situation, or you really have something there! Personally, I think if they can keep the screeners awake and engaged in their job, we don’t need a Nintendo Wii! Good flesh out on fidgetiness at the airport…if it was me, I was have to go to the bathroom first otherwise, I would be very fidgety.

Is the Wii Fit even accurate enough to monitor things like this? I have never used one, but I can’t imagine it being good enough to accurately monitor “shifts in body weight”, especially small ones like people being fidgety. I guess I am just a little skeptical on this, although it is quite interesting.

As a physical therapist, Chris, I can tell you that it does an AMAZINGLY good job at body weight and balance measurements. In fact, many PT clinics and sports clinics use them because they are so sensitive and give great feedback to the user/patient. For airports? Fidgetiness? I don’t like it. If you get a chance, try out the Wii Fit…very cool technology and fun.
