Just like Rick, I also spend a lot of time in my car driving from one appointment to another. Lately I have discovered the joy of reading, both traditional books and audio books.
All through school I was never much of a reader. In fact, it wasn't until college that I actually kept up with reading the required text and that was only in classes that I enjoyed like American Government and Creative Non-fiction (yes that was a real class I took).
Late last year I installed a nice bookshelf in our bathroom and since then I have read about 5 books and too many entire magazines to count.
While I am in my car I listen to audio books. One tip about audio books, they are expensive brand new, but very inexpensive on eBay and Amazon. One of the books I recently picked up was almost $30 in the store, but someone had it used (once) for $10. Audio books are great, especially if they are read by the author. They keep your mind going and entertain you at the same time.
I find myself eating lunch in my car more so I can listen to the audio book.
I hooked my MP3 player up to my car and now I have three audio books on that little device and I change them around depending on what mood I'm in that day.
If you enjoy listening to audio books and you don't want to spend a lot of money, another great alternative is Audible.com . This is a subscription service especially for audio books and articles.
