Windows XP introduced us to the two column start menu. While the new menu evokes some uncomfortable feelings because it’s, well, new, open your mind to the possibilities.
First, because of the new Start menu, the only required desktop icon is the Recycle Bin. That’s right, you don’t have to stare at Network Neighborhood (now Network Places), My Computer or even My Documents any more. They are all housed neatly in the revamped Start menu. You may, if you feel so inclined, include these icons on your desktop, but I digress, we are discussing the Start menu.
To get to frequently used computer programs via the Start menu, use the pin
method so the program appears on the Start menu.
This technique helps keep your desktop clean yet still provides quick access to your favorite programs.
