I just read last night that Windows 7 DOES go easier on laptop batteries than Vista. For sure it takes less resources and is much snappier than Vista. IF you have a dual core processor and at least 3GB of RAM, I would say go for it. But as with any change in OS, you will get best results with a format and reinstall versus in-place upgrade.
