Give Your Digital Pictures an Artistic Flair

Whether you use a digital camera, scanner, get your film developed on disk, or just collect digital photos from your friends and family via email, learning to work with and edit your photo’s with your computer is great fun. One of my favorite (and easy) tricks to do with digital photos is convert them to black and white.

Black and white photos offer a unique perspective and effect to almost any photo but work particularly well with landscapes and people photos. Say, didn’t a guy by the name of Ansel Adams take a few black and white photos? Hmmmmm….

In Adobe Photo Deluxe:
1. Click the Advanced button
2. Click the Effects tab.
3. Click the Color To BW button.

In Adobe Photoshop Elements:
1. Click Image –> Mode –> Grayscale

In Paint Shop Pro
1. Click Colors –> Grey Scale

In Microsoft Picture It:
Versions differ, but look under Special effects or Paint and Colors on the workbench toolbar.

This feature is too short to possibly cover all the different image editing programs, but if you want to try this technique with yours look for a black and white or grayscale option in either a colors or effects menu in your favorite picture editor.
