Gmail guide for beginners – 3 Videos – Video Tip

This week’s video tip is a HelpMeRick.com first…it involves 3 videos to cover the topic of Gmail. Directly above each video below, I give a short synopsis of the videos contents. The more I use it, the more impressed I am with Gmail. If you currently use Gmail, don’t be afraid to watch these videos as you might pick up a tip or two yourself.

Google offers a good Help section covering their email system, and you can find it by clicking here. My short video series here are meant to just get you started quickly and give you the highlights of this email system.

Anyone who currently use Gmail and has some tips to offer, please post them below.

Gmail How-to Video – Part I

This video gives you an overview of the Gmail system, how to send an email, print an email, read an email, reply to an email, use the contacts list (address book) and attach a file to an email.

Gmail How-to Video – Part II

In this second video, I demonstrate how to retrieve your outside email from other Internet providers or domain email into Gmail, use labels and filters, explain the Archive function, spam filtering and Gmail conversations (a feature that may be worth moving to Gmail all by itself.)

Gmail How-to Video – Part III

In my final video installment, I go over some of the more advanced functions of Gmail including setting a vacation message, creating a signature, searching your mail (another stellar feature that may convince you to move), and some of the new stuff coming from Google Labs.

  1. Nice tutorials, I learned a couple of tricks from you. Do you know how to save pictures, sent to me in gmail, to my iphoto

  2. Hi,
Not sure if you can help me but I’ll ask anyway.
Using windows XP if I wanted to email a file I’d right click on the file and it gave me an option to send to email recipient. If you click on that it would open up my aol email and have the file attached for me ready to send.
I am new to windows 7 and I can’t figure out how to attach a file to aol email. Any help would be much apprreciated.
    Thanks

    1. If you are using AOL’s web based email, you won’t be able to do the RIGHT click trick any longer. Instead, click the “Attach” button in AOL (usually a paper clip), then navigate and click on your file.

      1. Thank you Rick!
i just tried it and it worked. Simple explanation but I had no clue. You are the first person among many I’ve asked that understood my question. I Really appreciate your help!
        Bill

  3. We spoke last week when you were on KAFM . I had questions about using G-mail with Outlook. You suggested I eliminate Outlook and use only G-mail. I’m not sure how it got set up this way in the first place. You told me to go to your web site to find the way to remove Outlook. Were do I find it on your site?

    Thank you.

    1. Hello Tony. We referred you to the site for finding out how to use Gmail…to remove Outlook from your system, go to the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features)

  4. I just upgraded to Windows 7. Everything is fine and I might add I have outlook 97 and it works fine. However I cannot use Gmail through Google now? How can I fix that?

  5. Rick, lately I have been unable to forward any emails that have pictures in them. When I hit the forward button, the text remains in the email, but the pictures are replaced with little tiny red x’s. What has changed?

  6. Gmail does not have the advantages of Outlook in that Outlook uses Word applications such as auto capitalization, auto spell check and one can even get dictionary definitions. I often forget to use spell check in Gmail and later regret it. No problem in Outlook. When will Gmail catch up?

  8. For the past two days, all of my emails that contain pictures have little boxes indicating there are pictures, but I am unable to see the pictures. How do I fix this?

  9. I am using Windows 7. I have 2 issues.

I use Google and gmail all the time.
I had Bing pop up on my computer. I couldn’t get rid of it. I finally restored my computer to an earlier date and got rid of it. Is there another way to get rid of it.

I get on Craigslist quit a bit and now if I try to contact a person through the anonymous contact I am getting the Microsoft email not the gmail email program I was getting before. How can I change that?

    1. Hello. To make Gmail your default email, use the Gmail Notifier. Here’s how. For the Bing question, it usually comes around as an add-on to other programs or updates you may have downloaded…you can easily uninstall it from the “uninstall a program” in your Control Panel. Thanks!
