One of my long time customers called me the other day with a question about not being able to backup his photos using Picasa without errors. Upon some research, I discovered that he was simply hitting the burn button to quick. To avoid repeating his problem, wait for Picasa to finish calculating the backup job before hitting the burn button.
While doing this research, I also discovered how to use Picasa to backup all your photos to an external hard drive or a network drive:
- Start Picasa
- Click Tools –> Backup from the menus
- Click New Set
- Type a name for your external or network drive
- Select Disk-to-disk backup option
- Click Choose to find the drive and folder where you want Picasa to backup your photos
- Click Create
- Click Select All
- Click Backup

However, I’m using the Linux version and I can’t find my network drive in the drop down menu.
Do I need to mount the drive?
Would it be better to use a USB drive, or will I have the same problem locating that?

hi , i tried everything you said and it appeared to work but when i went into my external hard drive i couldn’t find it.. i did it numerous time says backing up yet when i click into the hard drive it isn’t there…what am i doing wrong?? thanks
You should see a folder that says Picasa or Picasa Backup, then your photos will be in it. If you don’t see them, then you might not be selecting the right backup location. Good luck.
