Microsoft released an updated and completely re-tooled version of their computer security product. It is now called Microsoft Security Essentials. I have not had a chance to try it out yet (wasn’t accepted into the beta testing this summer), but through my reading it is getting much better scores than their awful Live OneCare products they sold for a couple of years.
Overall, it supposedly runs much faster than OneCare and protects much better as well. Users can use the tool for free. The old version cost up to $70 per year. If yo do decide to try the new Microsoft SecurityEssentials security product, you do need to uninstall any current security software first.
As I learn more about it and see it in action, I will let you know right here at HelpMeRick.com. If you decide to use or have feedback on it, please leave a comment below and share your information.
Lastly, here’s a good article that summarizes the new Microsoft product really well.

I think that MS is really going to give other anti-virus companies a headache. If AV companies didn’t play on fear enough before, wait until you see how they are going to spin Microsoft providing their own anti-virus software for free.
I can here the advertisement’s now, “Microsoft knows how insecure their own operating system really is. We know how to fend off the threats.”
I do think that companies like AVG, Panda, McCaffey, Symantec, Trend Micros, avast!, etc. are going to have to up the ante and offer something of more value or the “just good enough” aspect of MS Essentials is going to cripple them.
I hear you Chris…in fact, I read that AVG just rolled out version 9 of their pay product, and their free version is due by the end of the month. Supposedly will be much faster than 8 and 8.5 have been with even better protection. Have you looked at the new MS product yet?
