Castellini on Computers gets bumped again

Submitted by Adam on July 28, 2006 - 3:49pm.
  • Riding Shotgun with Adam

The radio business is just that. It's a business.

I recieved a call this week from the station manager to let us know that AM 1100 KNZZ is going to be bumping the first half hour of our show off the air locally. It seems that there is a new local real estate show that is paying to be on starting at 11a.m. every Saturday.

Listeners will still be able to listen via the Internet and call in to the show at our regular number, but KNZZ has made the decision to not air our show for the first half hour.

As you will likely recall, they just started airing our entire program a few months ago after cutting the last 30 minutes off to run colon and prostate health infomercials.

We complained to the management, but they explained that the new real estate show is paying big dollars to be on at that time. Either way, since Rick and Adam get paid absolutly nothing to do the show, we have no paid advertisers and our web ads only bring in about $35/month, we can not afford to have any control in this situation.

All we ask is that our listeners hang in there with us. We hope that our local listeners will still tune in to the first half hour on the web.

We are extremely frustrated by this. Someday we hope to be an important force in helping the average computer user feel more comfortable with their computer.

We have had several let downs over the years, but we do it because we believe that no one else does what we do for the common man. Geeks have books and educations, but where does the person go for computer help when they just want to use their PC as a tool and they don't really care about the bits and bytes?

Rick may ask me to pull this article when he sees it. But he is on vacation.

Castellini on Computers as asset to the community & FREE

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 17, 2006 - 10:17am.

As a 16 hour a day listener to KNZZ as well as 1340 AM, I agree with most of what the email from Will Houghmaster stated regarding programing, advertisements etc. Castellini is a asset to your line up. I too, tune out your infomercials. I do like hearing some non political talk shows. Rush Limbaugh is the best, Sean Hannity is a rerun of Rush's show. Dr Laura is a breath of fresh air. Just want you to know. Thanks, G. West

KNZZ "WHO?"

Submitted by Smart Computer User on August 4, 2006 - 10:14pm.

Bumping your show, again,is not the best recruting tool
to aquire new listeners, besides loosing current listeners.
Your show is an asset to the community as well as the
professionals, students, and the senior citizens in our local
area!Has anyone at KNZZ listened to the calls that your show
receives from other "countries?".
I hope KNZZ will reconsider their decission.
Your show is perhaps one of the only reasons myself and or
others ever first tuned into radio KNZZ!
"Thanks again Rick and Adam,and
your listeners are loyal to your show."

Your show

Submitted by Smart Computer User on July 30, 2006 - 11:23pm.

Hi guys,
I've been listening to your show for about 2 years now. I'm kind of a talk radio junkie, but your show stands out. I've never called in, or written to y'all before, but I just wanted to know that I've gotten lots of useful tips from your show and website. I've switched from IE to Firefox and have been amazed at how easy it is to use. It's sad to see you guys lose a 1/2 hour of radio time. I haven't been able to listen for about 4 1/2 months now, as I'm deployed to FT.Hood, TX and headed to Iraq. I've told lots of my friends about your website and gotten some good comments. I'll be using the 'net almost exclusively for communication overseas. I couldn't find a regular e-mail contact for you guys so I'm using this space. Please feel free to move it as you guys see fit as I know this is not the time or space to insert my comments on your site, anyway gentlemen take care and have a great day! Keep up the good work!
Paul from Grand Junction

It's hard to believe you don't get paid !
With ALL of the commercials ----someone is getting rich.
They know they have listeners or they wouldn't have their advertisement on you program.

How can we help get you some pay for all of your work.
KNZZ should be ashamed !

KNZZ

Submitted by Smart Computer User on July 29, 2006 - 10:19pm.

Hi there…

I just wanted to add my two cents to this issue. I live in Grand Junction and work for WestStar Aviation. I work by myself mostly and have the opportunity to listen to a lot of talk radio. I happen to listen to KNZZ all of the time. I too am getting quite frustrated with their programming. I sometimes wonder who in the world is manning their station, because they are constantly making stupid programming mistakes! I like the fact that the programming tends to be Christian focused, but it gets real irritating to keep hearing the same advertisements over and over and over and over and over and over again!! For instance the “Western Slope Help Wanted” commercial, which is a two part commercial anyways…. that commercial will automatically repeat itself twice. It seems like they are adding their own commercials over some other stations broadcasting, because when there is a screw-up in the commercial breaks it will automatically drop into a different radio show already in progress. I realize that you have to play commercials to make money, but it seems like they are too lazy to make at least some effort to make the commercials more interesting. Instead they opt to the easiest way out and in the process turn off their listeners! That to me seems very unprofessional! Also, it was quite frustrating this past summer during the Jucco playoffs. Why in the world do we have to have two Grand Junction stations broadcasting the playoffs? They assume that every GJ resident is into sports. I got so frustrated that week that I emailed the station with my thoughts, but I never got a reply. As it stands I have made it a habit to shut the radio off during commercials. I am real close to shutting KNZZ off completely and going to paid satellite radio instead. By the way, I do enjoy Castellini on Computers! You guys do an excellent job! I do have to say though that I wish sometimes you would go into situations a little deeper, but you are geared toward the new user and I do understand that. Thanks for being there!

Radio business

So sorry to hear that the "powers that be" are making yet another bad decision regarding programing and what the listeners want. I will contact management and complain.
I appreciate your show and the fact that you have put up with all the -------- for your audience.

Program Bumped Again

Submitted by Smart Computer User on July 28, 2006 - 6:26pm.

This really makes me mad!! I only listen KNZZ on Saturdays & Ric's show is the special one I listen to. I have learned so much from Adam & Ric. Please reconsider about bumping them & bump someone else if you need the $$$ that bad. Real Estate does not need to be on the Radio. It is all over the place, with signs, newspapers, etc. They do not need to advertize on the radio too. Thank you for listening, even tho you KNZZ will no doubt do anything about it. I am just MAD!!

Just so you know. None of the complaints you make here will be viewed by KNZZ. This site is owned and maintained by Rick and Adam only. It is in no way affiliated with KNZZ.

KNZZ's website is www.gjradio.com.
