Preparing for a week with Windows 7

Preparing for a week with Windows 7

Starting tomorrow, I will be embarking on a week long venture of using only Windows 7. I downloaded the beta version of Microsoft’s next Windows release immeadiately after it was made available in January. However, since I installed it on my presentation laptop, I don’t use it very often. That will change tomorrow as I use it exclusively for the next week.

Look for daily reports of how my 7 days with Windows 7 is going. In one week, I hope to answer the following questions:

  • Is Windows 7 faster than Vista?
  • Does it require as much hardare (RAM, processor, etc) as Vista?
  • Will it be a significant enough upgrade from XP to warrant a change?
  • If so, then who whould change? Who shouldn’t change?
  • Is Windows 7 more secure than Vista or XP?
  • Does all this really matter since the operating system becomes less important every day?

These are some of the questions I came up with that I want answered. If you have any questions about Windows 7 that you want me to explore, leave a comment and I’ll try to find the answer for you over the next week.

Determine as best you can if you should change by the use of your computer,ie, business vs. games vs internet vs games, etc.

I’m so disgusted by the many bad experiences I’ve had with different versions of Windows VISTA. I got rid of all of it from every computer it came with. I’m hoping that Windows7 is not just another copy of Vista in disguise. I love XP and if this can be a true improvement without losing the benefits – great. Your test will tell! Looking forward to the results.

The little I’ve used it so far, Dennis, I can tell you it is definitely a large step up from Vista. However, I still live by the age old adage; If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. XP users who get along fine with their computers should use them until they give out.
