Microsoft and Yahoo ink 10 year deal

yahoo-msftdealThe biggest tech headlines this week belonged to the long awaited deal between Yahoo and Microsoft. It wasn’t a buy out/takeover like Microsoft attempted a few times the past couple of years, but a business deal this time. Yahoo agrees to use Microsoft’s search technology instead of their own and they will share ad revenues from the search related ads generated on Yahoo pages. The deal is for 10 years.

This business marriage will bring together two tech titans that will Continue reading →

Intel Helped Google with Chrome OS

This article seems to confirm a suspicion I had and wrote about upon Google’s initial announcement of the Chrome Operating System. Intel has been working with the Linux community for months developing a compelling operating system called Moblin. The Moblin project already uses the Chromium browser (Linux equivalent of Google Chrome) and seems like a natural starting spot for Google’s project.

I still think that Moblin or something very similar will become Google Chrome OS.

You can read CIO Today’s entire article here:

Operating Systems – Intel Confirms It Helped Develop Google’s Chrome OS.

Before I left for my monthly users group meeting this morning, I caught a quick glimpse of Google’s announcement to enter the world of operating systems on Twitter. Most folks in the tech business figured it would be a natural leap for Google to work towards their own operating system, especially after the release of their Chrome browser last year. I couldn’t wait to return home and participate in the techno frenzy.

I spent most of the evening reading many of the already thousands of responses to the Google announcement introducing the Chrome Operating System. My colleague, Adam Cochran, penned a nice article from the perspective of a Google OS wish list. Give his article a read, I especially liked his #4 point. Unfortunately, many of the articles I read tonight seem to be focusing on what Google Chrome will not be versus what Google themselves already stated it will be.

The executive summary of Google’s announcement: Continue reading →

Creating an email group in Gmail – Video Tip

I’m thrilled that so many people are heeding my advice and starting to use Gmail. Click here to see three how-to videos about Gmail to see why so many people are jumping to Gmail.

New Gmail users frequently ask me how to setup an address group in Gmail. Groups allow you to send a single email to a group of people in your address book by addressing the message to the group instead of the individuals in the group.

To create the group:

  1. In Gmail, click the contacts link
  2. Click the New Group icon
  3. Type a name for your new group
  4. Click OK
  5. Click All Contacts
  6. Place a check mark in the boxes of the contacts you want to belong to your new group
  7. Click the Groups menu
  8. Click the name of the group you want for them

To send an email to the group, click Continue reading →
