Mozy Online Backup Redux

Last spring I introduced you to Mozy Online Backup. I have been using the service for more than a year now and couldn’t be happier. In that time, I helped many clients (individuals and businesses) sign up as well. The service works great, offers peace of mind, and is extremely affordable. If you haven’t read my original article about Mozy, make sure to read it and then watch the video on how to set it up. Like insurance, you hope to never use it, but you will be awfully happy when need it.

How to setup Mozy Online Backup – Video Tip

Your best defense against computer problems is a solid backup strategy. If you search our site for backup, you will find many articles relating to this important topic. However, in the past year or so, IF you have a high speed Internet connection, another compelling backup option has emerged. That option is online backup. Backing your data up automatically to a server on the Internet can be affordable, safe, and painless.

In today’s tip, I demonstrate how to sign up for Mozy Online backup, install the product and configure it. Mozy offers 2 GB of free space and unlimited backup space for $4.95 per month.

Other good online backup options to consider include:

Online backup should not be your only backup option, but it does offer a very solid tool to add to your backup regimen. Again, you need to have high speed Internet connection (fast DSL, Cable or Fiber) as online backup services will not work with dial-up services.

Mozy Online Backup – Now for Mac too

A couple of months ago I reviewed a couple of the online backup services and really liked (and continue to use) the Mozy Backup service. Today, Mozy announced the release of their online backup system for Macintosh users. You can read more about it and try it out by clicking this link.

Do you use or are you interested in Online Backup?

I wrote about backup last week, I know. But already this year, I’ve seen at least a dozen computer users (many of them running businesses) who either don’t backup at all or have no clue how to backup their important data.

Adam mentioned that he will start using and testing the heavily advertised Carbonite online backup system and post a review soon. I started using Xdrive (an AOL company) again tonight to test how it works compared to when I used it a little 3 or so years ago. Xdrive provides 5 GB of storage for free. After I test Xdrive for awhile, I think I will try and review Mozy and Box.net next.

For those who have heard my plea for you to backup, I’m curious if you are interested in online backup or if you are currently using online backup? Leave a comment below and tell me what your thoughts are regarding online backup, or backup in general.
