I think what you described in a tablet-type package with high speed WiFi would be perfect - so you could unplug it from the TV and take it to other rooms. Take it to the kitchen to find recipes on the net, take it to bed to read an e-book, take it to the garage to look at an exploded view of your car's electrical system, take it on the road to keep up with your email.... While we're on inventions - how about someone inventing an mp3 player that uses a USB memory stick for storage? That way you could buy several cheap sticks to use with one player. You could upgrade your storage at any time (I saw a 4 GB stick advertised this morning), or keep different artists or music type on different sticks. Nice idea.
