I have already received multiple emails and calls about a Windows Defender (Microsoft's anti-spyware program) error. The error looks something like this:
"Application failed to materialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop.
To start the service, restart computer or search Help & Support on how to tart service Manually."
This is a result of the beta (still experimental) versions of Windows Defender being installed on your computer. The solution is to simply download a new copy of Windows Defender (by clicking here) from Microsoft and install it . It will upgrade the older version you have now and the startup error will disappear.
In some cases, you may need to uninstall the old copy of Windows Defender (Microsoft Anti-spyware) via Add/Remove programs before installing the new one above.

For the last several days, I have been receiving the Defender error. I have been ignoring it hoping it would go away! This morning it dawned on me to check your website for help and there it was on your mainpage – in big, bold letters! I followed your easy to use link and have now corrected the error. Thank you and keep up the great work.
I tried your fix for this error twice. It didn’t work. Any other suggestions about how to fix this error?
Thanks for updating your defender fix. Everything is good now.

Everytning was going great until it asked for a validation code. I could’t find anything remotly like a validation code. Where is it? Janet
Almost all installations from Microsoft require you to validate your Windows version (prove it's legal). In order to do this, you must be connected to the Internet when installing the program.
I guess they don’t have any programmers who are capable of having Windows Defender actually tell you what the problem is instead of just popping up a cryptic error message and generating a whole bunch of unnecessary support calls.
I received the Windows Defender Error today. After I click OK to the Windows Defender, McAfee comes on and says, “not enough system resources”…
Then onwards…i dont see the start button…I do see the icons on the desktop…
I am not able to Connect to the Internet…Nothing happens when i double click on the IE icon…
I tried to uninstall..the Defender from Add Remove Programs..but it was not able to…gave some error message…
Please help me fix this problem
Thanks AJ
Thank you so much for your helpful instructions on how to correct this problem. I had no idea it was a common problem until I read your tips. I did have to uninstall Windows Defender first. Now things seem to be running great!
I have the same issue that is resolved in the above comment. However, I can’t download from Microsoft because it is unable to verify my windows vista (even though it is on my new laptop that is only a few months old). Windows keeps blocking certain files. Ever since I got this error I’ve had weird security certificate issues, Norton Antivirus has shut down and I can barely use install/uninstall. It’s a mess I can’t fix.
help.
