I think that the client is going to need to install something if there is going to be any real functionality. I may be wrong, but in my experience the interactions is quite limited when there are no programs installed on each system. Still, I will check this out to see if I am indeed mistaken.
Zolved works great and is very easy for the end user to use. The download is small and does not install anything, just runs for the current session. I use this Zolved to connect to my clients who do not use a VPN solution. Many smaller clients do not want to invest the money in a VPN solution, but using Zolved provides instant access to my clients networks. I have used the free version of Logmein, the only downside is that you have to install client application for that to work. They have a similar product in Logmein Rescue, but the price is pretty steep for small businesses.

Yes, Zolved is a small utility (built-on Ultra VNC I think) that does get installed on the client computer. Works quite well.
