TIME inc. makes another mistake – Business 2.0 pulled from racks

A few months ago, I discovered Business 2.0, a small magazine in the Time empire. I have read every issue since over and over again in the room where I do most of my reading.

I have bought the past few issues off the stands. I bought the October issue with every intent of filling out the subscription card this month replacing my Popular Photography subscription. I was very disappointed to read the banner across the top of the October Issue – "Collectors Item: Our Final Issue."

It is rare to find a magazine with information that is tough to find online and Business 2.0 did just that. The magazine specialized in reporting Internet and up-and-coming business trends that weren’t grand enough to cover in Forbes and similar magazines. For a good example of what I am taking about, here is a link to last month’s article on the latest disruptive technologies. This article is an excellent example of the type of information found in this magazine.

I enjoy learning about technology businesses. While the tech sector is unpredictable and, at times unstable, it is also where the books on tomorrow’s economy are written.

Business 2.0 did a great job of collecting the news and information on start-up businesses and unconventional business practices. Good magazines are rare now. Most news, information and commentary can be covered much better by online agencies. I was surprised to see Time pull the plug on Business 2.0 because it actually collected the best and most obscure business news into one magazine so that when I sit down to surf the web I know where I want to go.

It seems like the perfect business idea – a magazine that tracks business ideas. Sadly, I think that Business 2.0 is ahead of its time and as Web 2.0 takes over and changes how money is the economy moves online, the market for a magazine like Business 2.0 will manifest itself. I hope that whatever takes its place returns perhaps under the Forbs or Money magazine name.
