The backdoor to your Outlook Express addressbook

If your hard drive crashes and you need to find your Outlook Express addressbook – here is where you will find it in Windows XP.

C:/Documents and Settings/(your user folder)/Application Data/Microsoft/Addressbook/(here you will find your addressbook).

Before you try this maked sure you go into Tools/Folder Options and choose to show hidden folders.

The addressbook will be called something like "addressbook.wab" you can also search for the address book by going to Start->Find/Search. Type in "*.wab"

Make Disk Cleanup Run Faster

WARNING:  This tip involves editing the Registry, so only perform these steps IF you feel comfortable making changes to a part of the computer where one wrong move can bring your whole system down.

Performing these steps will disable the "compress files" part of the Windows Clean Up utility:

  1. Click Start –> Run
  2. Type:   regedit
  3. Navigate to and expand the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE  –> SOFTWARE –>   Microsoft –>   Windows –>  CurrentVersion –> Explorer –> VolumeCaches

Fix Winsock Problem

Lost of spyware and networking problems can cause things to go screwy with the way your computer plays well with others. This is primarily a problem with broadband users but it can also prevent dialup users from connecting to the Internet.

Try this little tool if you have problems getting your computer can’t connect to the web.

Microsoft Word or Office Problems after last week’s Windows Updates

This is a short note to help those folks who are having problems with opening Word documents after a critical update from Windows last week. It appears it is unique to folks with some specific HP software.

After studying it, I would recommend going to Add/Remove Programs and remove the HP Share-to-Web program (unless you are really using that feature…most people don’t). If you do use that feature or want to learn more about the cause and fix for this problem. Visit Microsoft’s Support site and read their article

Microsoft Access Help Site

Microsoft Access is a great and incredible tool, but sometimes it’s nice to find some help on features that are new or unfamiliar to you. The best site I have found there is Utter Access.
