E2Give Spyware removal

I forgot to post this earlier in the week. One of my customer's had a particularly nasty spyware infection that needed a specialized tool to remove it. The spyware is called e2give. If one of your spyware programs detects it, use this tip to get rid of it:

Download the removal tool here.

Then follow these instructions:

– Extract the file you downloaded to your Desktop
– Double click E2TakeOut.exe
– Click the Begin Removal button
– Wait until the program is finished scanning
– Once done, it will produce a popup stating that the infection has been found and you need to reboot you computer to complete the removal
– Reboot your computer
– Once your computer has rebooted E2TakeOut will open and produce a report

Password Protect or Encrypt Flash Drives

Ed called in looking for a way to encrypt or protect the information on his flash drive. Here are a few solutions we thought of.

While we discussed encryption, you may also consider password protection.

1. You could use WinZip and password protect a zipped folder or file.

2. Lockngo is a program that password protects all kinds of drives.

3. Folder Lock is another program that password locks any flash drive.

The infamous Mentos and Diet Coke Video

Adam first shared this with me a few weeks ago. Since then it has been copied many times and has garnered world wide attention. If you haven’t seen this video, you will have fun. High speed Internet will make viewing easier, but it is worth the wait even if you are using dial-up. Also, make sure to turn your speaker’s sound up.

A Better Movie Theater Business Model

I have always enjoyed SciFi and superhero movies. My three favorite movies until I was in high school were Superman, Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Since then I have learned to appreciate the art of finer cinema, but I still l will go back and watch each of these three movies at least once each year.

Superman Returns starts today but I probably won't go see it. I would love to take my family to it, but it would cost our family $36 if we sneak candy in.

Once we are in the theater we have to figure that at least two of the kids will need to use the restroom during the movie and so we will likely only see 110 minutes or less of a 120 minute movie.

Recent spyware surge

Last week Rick and I made a fast trip to Denver and back in a single day (about 7 hours on the road).

During that time we talked about the various computer problems we have seen lately. He noted that spyware seemed to be on the decrease. It is only Wednesday and I have reason to believe that Rick set a jinx upon computer users everywhere.

On Monday night my sister called with a computer problem. I drove to her house and her computer was loaded with spyware and viruses. Earlier that day, I received a call from another client with a computer that wouldn’t even boot up because it has so many viruses (over 1600 infections).

Fix those LSP problems with Winsock repair tool

I searched all over our site for this tool and I couldn’t find it, so I decided to do a Shotgun on it so that it would show up in a search on our page.

Some spyware is nastier than others. Some of my least favorite spyware goes in and corrupts the way your computer connects to the Internet. Essentially it routes your Internect connection through a special path so that the creator of the spyware can watch what you are doing online.

It does then by changing a feature of Windows called Winsock. Winsock is the method that your computer uses to talk to other computers on the Internet and elsewhere. If Winsock gets corrupted, you lose your Internet connection.

Picasa 2 Revisited

We discussed Picasa 2 late last year, but since then I have discovered many more wonderful things that can be done with the program. In fact, I now use it more often than any other program for my day-to-day digital photography.

HOW TO GET PICASA:

1. Download Either click on this button, or go to www.picasa.com and click on the Free Download button.
