Resolving problems with PayPal

Once in a great while a person on eBay will take your money but never send you the item. This is one of the advantages to using PayPal. If the seller has a PayPal account you can file a complaint with PayPal.

To start the complaint process go to www.PayPal.com, log into your account and click on the Resolution Center.

If the person does not work with PayPal to resolve the problem then PayPal will remove the funds from the seller’s account and refund it to you.

Install Windows 98 over the top of Windows 98

This trick only works with Windows 98!

Occasionally Windows 98 will become too corrupted to use effectively. One possible solution to this is to do a fresh install of Windows 98 over the top of itself.

This process will not destroy any data on your computer.

1. Place the Windows 98 CD into your computer. If you have one, it is also a good idea to place the Windows 98 floppy into the floppy drive.

2. Turn off your computer and turn it back on.

3. Choose to start your computer With CD-ROM support – but do not select the option to Setup Windows 98.

4. The screen will eventually come to a C:>

Backup Outlook Express Email

The most reliable way is to search your computer for *.dbx files using Start –> Search. Make sure you check the option to search for hidden folders and files. Then backup any of the dbx files.

To restore these files on a new computer or new installation, Start Outlook Express, Click File –> Import –> Messages. Follow the wizard and choose Outlook Express 6 as the type of email you are importing, then click Browse to where you saved the original files.

1. Click on FILE

2. Click on Add Folders to Picasa

3. Select a file then click on the "Always Scan" bullet at the side.

4. Click OK and it will scan all the given folders for photos.

What to do if your CD doesn’t autostart or it autostarts incorrectly

Often computers forget how to start up CDs automatically when you put them into the drive or they start up in the wrong program starts up.

2. Double-click on My Computer (on your desktop or in the right pain of your XP start menu).

Successful Searching of the Internet

All too often I hear comments like "I can’t find anything on the Internet" or "I’m afraid of getting viruses from the Internet" or "Where do I start". In today’s meetings, we discussed some tried and true methods of searching the Internet successfully and easily.

Google is the current king of web searching and should be your first stop to start any search.

Boolean searching is probably the single best methodology to learn to improve your searching skills. Here’s how it works in a nutshell:

How to get into safe mode

We have told a number of callers today to run their utilities like scandisk, antivirus and antispyware in safe mode. Here is a quick reminder on how to do it. You can find more information on safe mode by searching for "safe mode" in our search box.

1. Turn on your computer

2. As your computer turns on press your F8 key over and over in about half second intervals until a menu of options comes up.

3. Choose Safe Mode using your arrow keys and press ENTER

Safe mode is a troubleshooting version of windows that disables unnecessary features that can get in the way of removing viruses, spyware and other problems.
