Windows 7 has definitely cleaned up a lot of loose ends created in Windows Vista and added some new features as well. One of the new features is a little superfluous, yet remarkably kind of fun and easy to remember. It is a new way to maximize a window.
In all previous versions of windows, the most popular way to maximize a window was to use the maximize button or double-click the title bar (did you know that one?) Both of these techniques still work in Windows 7, but now you can maximize a window by dragging it to the top of the screen. Works well…watch the video below to see it in action.
I really like this new way to maximize. I have been using 7 now for about a week on my home PC and love it.
Something else I like, especially while writing or programming is to set up a couple of applications next to each other in a “split screen” type of way.
Instead of dragging the title bar to the top like you do in the video, if you drag the title bar to the left or the right edge of the screen, the window will take up exactly half of the screen. I REALLY love this…
Thanks for the tip, Rick!
Some nice little usability tweaks…and on new large, high res wide-screen monitors, the split screen becomes even more useful!
