In August of 2008, I traded in my trusty Palm powered device (the Treo 755p) for the iPhone 3G. Having used the Palm operating system for almost 10 years, it was quite an adjustment at the time, but a welcome one. The iPhone 3G has served me extremely well since then.
The past year or so, however, Google has made some pretty substantial in-roads into the smartphone market with the Android operating system. While powerful and flexible, I ultimately decided that my investment in the iPhone (learning, comfort level and paid apps) would keep me there for the next little while. After studying the various Android phones, comparing cell phone coverage plans, and most of all what I need my phone for and how I use it, the iPhone 4 ended up in my pocket.
Two weeks into the new iPhone, I must admit that I experienced the same antenna issues (at times) that have now consumed many a headline. Since I use a Bluetooth headset, the problem didn’t affect me much, but it is disappointing to see such a glaring wide-spread issue with an Apple product. Antenna issue aside, the iPhone 4 performs extremely well for me. The device is probably 2-3 times faster than my previous iPhone, and the camera has almost zero shutter lag and supports spot metering and focus which is a welcome improvement from my old phone. All of my applications blaze on the new phone, and although I’m not used to the new multi-tasking feature yet, I can see its benefit and am sure it will make its way into my daily use of the device soon.
Look for an update to my article describing how I use the iPhone soon. I don’t think it has changed a lot since the first article, but I’m sure it has somewhat. Do you own or use a smartphone? Which one? Did you buy an iPhone 4? Leave me seem feedback by leaving a comment below…thanks!
