Update your virus protection

One of the best ways to protect your system and keep it running smoothly is to update your virus protection program regularly.

My current favorite anti-virus program is the free addition of AVG (see our link for it on the home page). I like not only its thoroughness, but the update utility is extremely easy (in fact automatic if you spend at least an hour a day online). After all, an anti-virus program can only help if it is kept updated.

To update AVG, make sure you are online, then RIGHT click on the AVG icon by the clock and click “Check for Updates”.

Norton Anti-virus and McAfee anti-virus remain popular choices for anti-virus, but they have become more costly and less efficient in their implementation. One commercial virus that I do like also is PC Cillin from trendmicro.com.

Whichever virus protection you choose, make sure you update it at least once a week!

  1. I need a downloadable update file from avg to active my installed software . please tell me how i can get it.

  2. Hi. I currently have Webroot AntiVirus with Anti Spyware which has done a pretty decent job of protecting my computer, but I’ve noticed recently that my e-mail is very slow. Reading it, deleting it, everything in my e-mail is slow. My friends have all recommended that I get AVG (and others have also recommended c-cleaner, adaware, etc), and have said I can run that in addition to the Webroot for extra security. I was wondering if that was true and if you would recommend doing that, along with the c-cleaner and adaware or any other things and how to do them. They have also recommended Firefox. Sorry to throw so much at you….as you can see, I’m pretty computer ‘un’savvy. Thank you!

    • Never have more than 1 antivirus on your system, but you can have multiple anti-spyware products. Your email is slow because of your provider…I’ll bet your accessing their web based system which is outdated and extremely slow. Firefox is a browser and NOT a security product…although it is safer to use than Internet Explorer. Good luck.
