We had our carpets cleaned today and I noticed some tech in the cleaning people’s car. It didn’t hit me until they showed up, but when I made the appointment, they didn’t ask for directions. After they arrived today, I noticed a Mapquest.com map sitting on their dash! I smiled and was pleased to see how much practical benefit we all get from the Internet. Do you remember looking up addresses in the yellow pages maps? Yikes, that was an exercise in frustration.
Being a huge geography buff, maps and mapping software were the first things I gravitated to with my computer and then again when the Internet exploded. Today, you can get maps, directions, satellite photos, real-time traffic reports and more right from your computer and increasingly from cell phones like my Treo.
I’m sure many of you have looked up a map or two online. Here are my favorite places to browse maps and get directions:
Google Maps
Google Earth
MSN Maps
Mapquest
National Geographic Maps
