Rick…I have a friend who has parkinson disease. Many of his nights are spent on the computer due to insomnia. His tremors are beginning to be a problem. There’s programs out there that are voice activated, guess you command the computer and it recognizes your command or something of the kind.
How effective are those programs? I will take your advice.
Thanks for all your help.

As a physical therapist, I know the rigors your friend is going through. I think computers and the Internet provide an excellent tool to help your friend keep in touch and keep stimulated as his disability progresses. And you are correct about the availibility of voice activated computer programs.
One beefed up feature that Microsoft added to Windows Vista and will be available in the upcoming Windows 7 is speech recognition and control. You will find this feature in the Accessories menu under the Accessibility group or in the Control Panel. For a full run down on this feature, click here to visit Microsoft’s site.
Another great option is Dragon Naturally Speaking. This product has been the leader in speech recognition for many years and has the ability to integrate well into the system and with some training, can quite capably give any user good voice control over their computer.
