Gmail guide for beginners - 3 Videos - Video Tip

Submitted by Rick on July 7, 2008 - 10:54pm.

  • Internet Tips

This week's video tip is a HelpMeRick.com first...it involves 3 videos to cover the topic of Gmail. Directly above each video below, I give a short synopsis of the videos contents. The more I use it, the more impressed I am with Gmail. If you currently use Gmail, don't be afraid to watch these videos as you might pick up a tip or two yourself.

Google offers a good Help section covering their email system, and you can find it by clicking here. My short video series here are meant to just get you started quickly and give you the highlights of this email system.

Anyone who currently use Gmail and has some tips to offer, please post them below.

Gmail How-to Video - Part I

This video gives you an overview of the Gmail system, how to send an email, print an email, read an email, reply to an email, use the contacts list (address book) and attach a file to an email.

Gmail How-to Video - Part II

In this second video, I demonstrate how to retrieve your outside email from other Internet providers or domain email into Gmail, use labels and filters, explain the Archive funciton, spam filtering and Gmail conversations (a feature that may be worth moving to Gmail all by itself.)

Gmail How-to Video - Part III

In my final video installment, I go over some of the more advanced funcitons of Gmail including setting a vacation message, creating a signature, searching your mail (another stellar feature that may convince you to move), and some of the new stuff coming from Google Labs.

Address book woes

Submitted by Rick on July 10, 2008 - 7:15am.

This is usually due to the Outlook Express Address book not being your default address book. If you have Microsoft Outlook installed (part of Microsoft Office), uninstall it and then you should get the import/export function back again.

Sorry George

Submitted by Rick on July 7, 2008 - 10:55pm.

I too wish the videos could be a little larger and clearer, but unfortunately U.S. Internet speeds and costs dictate how good a video I can bring you. I'm thinking of offering DVD copies of all my how-to videos for sale, would you or anyone else be interested in that kind of product?

DVD's might be interesting depending on cost.

Any plans to write a new book on computers ??

G mail

Submitted by Smart Computer User on July 7, 2008 - 10:28am.

Nice overview of G mail. I have used it for several years. Some good points and some not so good.

My main complaint is it is very hard (for me at least ) to get help from gmall

I get their FAQ page with several hundred entries. I can't go throught all that. I never found a way to search nor just ask for help !!

The first couple of years with gmail I would get 30 to 60" spam" emails and evr sinnce increased to 80 then 150 and a few days ago I got over 700 just overnight !!!!~!! Over 800 the next day or so !!

I tried to contact gmail to ask about it and could not as I outlined above.

About once a week or so their spam filter will list a site that is not spam and I have been getting for months or longer.

I also use Yahoo email and have been getting many error messages from them and I send in the report to them but nothings seems to change. Most are code 4, I also have many problems getting help from Yahoo !!

Your videos are nice but I wish there was a way to enlarge the picture. The web pages you show are way to small for my old eyes to read. Also the pictures are blurred--out of focus .
