7 Days with Windows 7 – Day 7

I reached the end of my week with Windows 7. I hope you enjoyed reading the coverage and watching the videos. If you haven’t caught all of them scroll down to the end of this article to link up to them or go back to the home page and scroll further down the page to see them.

Overall, I think Windows 7 does a nice job, but feel that they should have waited on Vista and put this version out instead. In many ways, Vista was a wasted 2 years for Microsoft…except maybe it was a giant beta version of Windows 7 on our dime and time.

In today’s short and final video in this series, I discuss a few of the things that Microsoft has omitted from Windows 7 and how they hope that we replace it by using their Microsoft Live web applications. The biggest glaring absence is Outlook Express or Windows Mail. Oh, by the way, I didn’t get any spyware or viruses this week on Windows 7, but then again I didn’t try either.

  1. Again, I think MS should give those of us who waited to buy a new computer till Vista came out (oops!) a huge price break to move to W7. Otherwise, I’m sticking with Vista… paying again for what Vista should’ve been in the 1st place is not too appealing.

  2. Hi Rick,
Thanks so much for the time you spent in educating us to the new Windows 7 Beta. As you closed day 7, video, you said it was a “fairly good upgrade” from Windows XP. Did I miss the reasons? If so, let me know which day explained them. I use Windows XP on everything, and would be interested in how significant this upgrade is in comparison.

    1. You are welcome Dennis. Thank you. Quick summary: taskbar, favorites for file management, wireless, program and document searching. But remember my mantra, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

  3. I’ve installed a dual boot Windows 7 on my primary Windows XP system. I’ve used it a little and am fairly impressed with it. Thank you for writing these articles.
Regarding Vista and Win 7. It’s deja vu all over again. Remember Windows 2000 and Windows XP? Microsoft made Windows NT a bit easier to manage with Windows 2000 and then brought out Windows XP withing a few years. Now they’ve done the same with Vista and Win 7. I feel sorry for all those who had to suffer through using Vista. I hope Microsoft has learned how to produce an OS that doesn’t take years and much customer frustration to get all the bugs out.
