I’ve been trying to loAD avg 8.5 – IT KEEPS TELLING ME THE FILE IS CORRUPT. What am I doing wrong? I keep trying every night because I’m on dial up. Thanks
Answer
Hello Lauren. You reminded me to ask one more question of folks who call me with the corrupt file error when trying to download. If you are using dialup, you will never get a clean download of a file that large. Your best bet is to download AVG from a friends house or work where you can use a broadband connection. Then transfer the download to a flash drive to bring to your computer. Dialup speeds just don’t have the consistency or speed to properly piece together all that data.
Thanks for writing!
Since your solutions for Lauren are not available to me, does that mean that AVG is no longer avaiable for me?

If you have dialup like Lauren, you will need to access a high speed connection for any antivirus service since they all need to be downloaded. OR purchase a CD and have it mailed to you.
There is an alternative. There are download managers that will allow you to restart a download from the point of failure. Here is one possibility:

I haven’t used this program myself, but Softpedia is a reputable website with many free programs guaranteed malware free.
The obvious problem with this solution is that your phone line will be tied up for many hours for a large download.
Good find Dave. I’ve never used a download manager, but that indeed might be a way for dialup customers to get large downloads. It’s just becoming more and more a broadband world though.
