I listen to streaming audio on my computer but it is confined to one room. Is there anyway I can get the audio to my whole house system wirelessly ie transmitter hooked to computer output & reciver hooked to amplifier input with enough voltage to drive amplifier.
ANSWER
There a number of ways to listen to the music you have stored on your computer or music you can listen to via the web like Pandora or Yahoo Music all around your home. One inexpensive and easy way to do it is buying a FM Transmitter to attach to your MP3 player. They cost well under $50 and plug directly into any MP3 or iPod. You then tune your home stereo to the FM station you setup and off you go.
On the same line, and possibly even easier is getting a simple audio cable to connect your MP3 or iPod to the stereo via a line-in jack.
If you want to control everything from your computer, then you have to move up in price and equipment. Chances are your computer is not sitting right next to your stereo system or you could use the audio cable input option I just mentioned. Apple users can use an Apple TV device which wirelessly connects any video or audio on their computers directly to their stereo systems.
PC users will want to shop for a media extender or wireless media player. D-Link, Linksys, and other companies make these devices that range in price from $90 to a few hundred dollars.
Lastly, you might want to consult a local audio/video expert to get more information and see some of these tech in action. Good luck.
If anyone else has some feedback on setting up full house digital audio, please leave a comment below.
Hi. I have 6 WiFi Internet radios situated through my house. I usually am not listening to music but I love them because I can listen to anything that is streaming on my computer. One just needs a broadband connection and a router. The radios were quite expensive when they first came out but have come down quite a bit. ‘Just a thought …
Thanks for the info! What brand and model are the radios you are using? Sounds like a great solution.
Hi, Rick. All of my radios come from C. Crane. http://www.ccrane.com/radios/wifi-radios/ Two men in their Customer Service department were extremely patient with me in getting the first one set up years ago. After that, it was a breeze. I am not a geek, although somewhat computer-literate. My first Internet radio was an AE which is no longer being manufactured. The other 5 are C.Crane’s own WiFi radio which is much better and cheaper than the AE. Internet radios are like computers – they keep getting better and cheaper. You may be able to find a cheaper price on Amazon or in a store like Fry’s Electronics, but I prefer the personal service I’ve gotten from C. Crane.
I listen to old-time radio, police and fire scanner traffic, and sports shows from all over the country. I also listen to radio programs from some of the islands in the Caribbean I lived on 50+ years ago. I can listen to a sports show in Wisconsin and hear what they have to say about Brett Favre. I could listen to music, of course, and do have some of that stored, but I find that there are so many other things I want to check out. Go to https://radios.reciva.com/ to see what radio stations and/or audio streams Reciva has in their huge library. If what you want is not on Reciva now, you can request that it be added. You would need to set up an account on Reciva to organize your stations and/or streams. Then you can listen on your Internet radio to what you’ve selected and saved on Reciva. Let me know if this doesn’t make sense.
I live kind of out in the “boonies,” so can’t pick up many local stations, but I love listening to other stations. Yes, I could hear the same thing sitting in front of my computer, but I love falling to sleep listening to an Internet radio by my bed, or listening to something while I’m doing laundry, or picking up something more interesting that what may be on TV that day/night.
Thank you so much for your email newsletter. I have told many people about it.
