As unbelievable as it sounds, yes, even on a new computer with a new operating system, Microsoft has already released almost 50 updates to thwart would-be hackers and fix little problems that have cropped up. Yes, install the updates as they become available to keep your system running safe and smooth.
Other than the constant updating of any version of Windows, I am pretty happy, overall, with Windows 7. Have fun with your new laptop.
