Free Solitaire for Apple Macintosh users

After years of looking and trying different programs, I think I found a great, free program for new Apple users that will help ease the move from Windows. Yes, believe it or not, a huge stumbling block for many of my clients in making the move to Macintosh is Solitaire, Free Cell, and/or Spider Solitaire.

Prior to today, I guided folks to the web in search of a solitaire program available from Hoyle or playing online Solitaire from Yahoo and other online sites. All these ideas were not 100% satisfactory replacements for their Windows games.

Today, I discovered Solitaire Greatest Hits, a free Open Source product that includes standard Solitaire (Klondike), Free Cell, Spider Solitaire, Pyramid, Canfield, Aces Up, Golf, Scorpion, Yukon, Baker’s Game, & Forty Thieves. You can download and try it out by clicking here.

Let me know how you like Solitaire Greatest Hits for Macintosh or let me know what solution you found for your Mac that works well.

  1. thanks you so much for this info. I like the program and I will donate. I was getting desperate after searching and trying unsatisfactory games when all I wanted was something simple like I had on Windows. Now I like my new Apple better.

  2. Play it for a while and you will find that there is a huge bug or two. I have played this sparingly for less than a week and on three separate occasions, I played a game which I would have won but there was only one buried card but there were two cards required to finish the game. In other words, the deck had less than 52 cards. This is a real novice programming error. I replayed the game the first time it happened and the same thing happened.

The second time, I repeated the game but had a different result. The third time I played the game twice and it came up short again. I would have contacted the author but there was no link within the game.

  3. I don’t like that you can’t double click the card to move it to the appropriate place. Clicking and dragging on a laptop is the pits. Also it’s weird that the new cards don’t turn over automatically when you move a card to another spot and you have to click on it for it to turn over. Fix those two things and it would be perfect.
