How to make the Mac Dock work for you – Video Tip

If you are a relatively new user to the Mac (Apple) world, you may not like the extra space that the dock (icons at bottom of screen) take up on your screen. Fortunately, you can completely customize the dock’s appearance and location. Here’s how:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner
  2. Click System Preferences –> Dock
  3. Adjust the size of the icons to your preference (hint: making them quite small, then increasing magnification helps decrease the real estate they require).
  4. Adjust the magnification (see above).
  5. Choose what side of the screen you would like the dock to appear (Hint: the right side location does not work well because of vertical scroll bars on the web and in other programs).
  6. To save further screen space, check the box that automatically hides the dock when not being used.
