If you use a cell phone (you do, don’t you?), you should also be using your cell phone’s phone book (address book) feature. In it, you can store phone numbers, of course, but you can do so much more. Since there are a bazillion different cell phones on the market, I can’t possibly give you step-by-step instructions like I usually do.
You can keep these little hints in mind when using your phone’s address/phone book feature:
- Always enter the area code for your entries…yes, even all the local people you add. When you travel out of your home area, you can’t dial from the phone book feature if the area codes aren’t entered.
- You don’t have to enter the 1 for long distance, cell phones don’t need it.
- Make sure to add all phone numbers for a particular contact, not just their cell number.
- If the data entry isn’t too arduous, enter in physical addresses as well. Comes in handy and can help you eliminate your paper address book.
- If your phone is a smartphone (Blackberry, iPhone, some Nokias, Google Droid, Windows phones, etc), strongly consider using Gmail and the Gmail contacts. With all these types of phones, you can enter the data on the web and synchronize it to your phone. Makes for a much easier data entry process, and you benefit from the data bing backed up.
- Another advantage of having your address book completed is caller id. You won’t have to wonder if that is Jim’s number or not…if he’s in your address book, then his name will appear when he calls…no more guessing.
Do you use your cell phone’s address book for anything else? If so, leave a comment!
I always sync my contacts between Google and my iPhone. I feel more safer knowing that my contacts are safe in my Google account.
Yep, I’m a Google convert too…love having the ubiquity of access.
As much as I love Google, I sync everything with my Apple .me account. Perfect and really easy
I list store hours, if different from the norm. Restaurant menu comments, iced tea good or bad, etc. It’s easier to reference this info from a Contacts list than from a Memo or other.
Great use of the phone address book…hope it inspires others!
Is there a wireless phone system that has a cell phone style directory, v-tech has a big 6000 entry phone number book, but its not in cell phone format,
I find the address book very helpful. I have i.d. blocking, however, so I have to enter more than one telephone # for the contacts. If I only have the *82 number I use to call them, I can’t send them SMSs and on incoming calls the caller i.d. doesn’t recognize their number.
Isn’t that the truth…I think I personally have 3 numbers!!
sometimes it i have a hard time selecting which mobile phone to buy. there are too many options to choose from.*,’
Apple can also make phones that are much better than what Nokia can bring.~;`
i guess mobile phones in the future will feature more processing power and great graphics“”
