Tonight my brother and I talked again using what is becoming our regular medium…Skype. We both of have inexpensive web cams and a basic microphone and call and talk to each other for an unlimited amount of time for absolutely no cost. Video calls are fun because not only can we see each other, but we can show each other items that we might be talking about and also let other family members (including pets) get involved in the conversation.
The voice clarity and cadence of the conversation is as natural as a normal phone conversation and that is the biggest change in Internet calling over the past few years. Internet calls used to be for the extremely patient and those willing to talk to each other in two word phrases with every fifth phrase being, “I didn’t understand what you said.”
Skype has changed all that and calls made between computers are more convenient than ever and calls made from Skype to any traditional phone or cell phone internationally are cheaper than any rate that can be found.
If you haven’t tried Skype lately, I suggest you take another look.
