I setup a new printer today and the thing was covered with stickers. I am not talking about the pieces of tape that hold all the parts in place for shipping – there were a lot of those too. I am referring to the stickers that advertise the fact that this printer prints. Or that this printer is "Great for photos!" There was even a sticker that said that it was. "Easy to use and setup!"
Why do they put these stickers on the printer? They also put them on new computers. If the computer or printer is in a box then wrapped in two layers of styrofoam and plastic bags, why do you need all these stickers?
I suppose it is so that the person buying the computer will feel better about their purchase before they get it setup and use it.
If this works, why don't new cars come covered with stickers that say stuff like, "fun to drive" or "great confortable steering wheel."
If there are stickers all over your printer or computer, you can peel them off. It doesn't void the warranty. These stickers don't hurt anything you are welcome to leave them on if you want. I just prefer not to leave my devices covered with advertising.
I like to have a little fun with the stickers and place them on devices that make that device look more impressive. For example, the "Includes AOL" sticker makes a computer look less than impressive, but put that sticker on the back of your microwave, fridge or car radio and it looks kind of cool.
I especially like to carefully peel the powered by Intel Pentium or Athlon 64 stickers off of a new computer and put them on my cell phone or in the bottom corner of the driver side window of my car.
