Gmail remains at the very top of my list of best email services and email interfaces. Not only can you use an existing email address (in most cases), but you can get your email from any computer very quickly. One overlooked option in any email program is the search function. I see too many computer users scrolling through all their saved email looking for a message rather than searching. Today, I’m going to demonstrate the quick and powerful search capabilities built-in the Gmail interface.

Gmail is also my favorite but to some who are not so familiar in using Gmail they don’t like how it works. I am also using the search options in Gmail and your post is so helpful. Thanks!
Totally agree. New users to Gmail find its starkness a little scary, but once they start to use it, they love it.
Since Gmail is a “cloud” app. your data (emails and address book) is kept on a computer in the sky and is accessed via the internet. If my internet service is interrupted I don’t have access to my data. Is there a way to store my Gmail address book on my hard drive to have access to it during a service outage?
You can backup your Gmail address book by exporting it and then opening it in a spreadsheet. You can also get access to ALL of your Gmail and features OFFLINE by clicking Settings in the upper right hand corner of Gmail, then the Labs tab, and finally enable the Offline feature. But seriously, how often are you without a connection to the Internet?
