I think that the client is going to need to install something if there is going to be any real functionality. I may be wrong, but in my experience the interactions is quite limited when there are no programs installed on each system. Still, I will check this out to see if I am indeed mistaken.

Yes, Zolved is a small utility (built-on Ultra VNC I think) that does get installed on the client computer. Works quite well.
