AVG AntiVirus Upgrade

The calls are starting to ramp up wondering about AVG's messages regarding the discontinuation of their anti-virus. The message is a little alarming, but rest assured that AVG (Grisoft) is NOT going out-of-business and for home users the product will remain free. Although Grisoft is discontinuing support and updates for their current version, they have released a new version of their popular and highly effective program called AVG 7.5. No need to worry, just follow the steps below to continue receiving the best anti-virus protection available today.

Upgrading to AVG 7.5 is not too bad. If you are using a broadband Internet connection , the download will only take a few moments. If you are a dial-up customer, the download will take about one to two hours. Here are the directions for properly upgrading to the newest edition of AVG Antivirus:

  1. Download the AVG Free Edition 7.5 setup program (by clicking this link).
  2. Save this file on your hard drive (preferably the Desktop)
  3. When the download finishes, double-click the file to start the installation.
  4. Click "Next" on the AVG "Welcome!" screen
  5. Click "Accept" on the "License Agreement on Use of an AVG Free Edition" screen
  6. Select "Repair installation" on the "Select Setup Type" screen and click "Next"
  7. Select "Restart the computer now" (pre-selected by the program automatically) and click "OK" on the "Installation Complete!" screen to restart your computer and complete the installation
  8. Be sure to RIGHT Click the AVG icon by your clock and then Check for Updates as well once the computer restarts

That should do it. Most of your AVG settings (if you changed them) should remain the same, but you can check them by entering the AVG Control Center by double-clicking the AVG icon by your clock.

I’ve downloaded AVG Free 8.0 and installed in my computer which is connected to internet. i update the virus definition from the internet but it is giving problem. after the installation of AVG, my internet seems not working . Plez, can any one help me solve this problem??? i couldn’t find what may be the probelm.

  3. Your problem makes me think that you might have accidentally installed the full version of AVG that includes a firewall which may have not been configured properly. From your description it is too hard to tell for sure, but you might just want to start over and make sure to follow my steps outlined in the video.

  4. I have uninstalled my free AVG. I thought it was successful but it is still on my system. Whenever I try to install my newly bought kaspersky, it says remove first the avg, but i’m sure i have removed it cause it’s not in the control panel anymore.
How can I totally removed the avg?
please help, i know nothing about this.

  5. I recently got hit by a bunch of spyware, viruses, malware and ad-aware. Anyway, after cleansing my computer of the infection and fixing the firewall, and after AVG 7.5 free found all the viruses, its installation path would not work so I reinstalled it. To my surprise, it would not update after the reinstallation. The AVG message read it could not create a connection with my IP Address, it could not update, etc. The IP address could not create a connection or be read so I cannot update it. I tried AVG 8 and it is awful it sucks. So my question is can I fix this problem or not. I have yet to find a solution. Please advise. The finished AVG installation now will not update regardless, have they stopped updating AVG 7.5 for good?

  6. AVG 8 has been out since April. Search my site for AVG 8 for the download link and a video on how to properly install it.

  7. Dear Rick,

Ever thought of becoming a politician. Most folk’s stick to the parameter’s of the query. Out in the real world, some systems, just dont sit too well with version 8. No matter what the installation, or it’s LinkScanner & wotnots deactivated. Thats why you get a fare amount of people, wanting to stick with v7.5 updates, or jumping ship to Avast, etc, etc.

I pull & mod, element’s of XP day in day out, and had a few registry hacks at the AVG watchdog engine. Every day I learn, how little I know! But if people believe in you, then you should have the dignity NOT to sidestep thier question.

  8. And I have also commented and wrote many times that AVG has not had as good a go with 8.0 as previous versions, but I still like it the best for most people.

As to the commenter’s questions, he/she HAS to update to 8.0 because AVG has stopped providing updates for 7.5. Unlike the waffling (to use a political term) that Microsoft does by extending the life of old products multiple times, smaller companies like AVG have to end support on older products so they can invest in newer ones and support current versions.

And like you, I KNOW that I have a thimble full of knowledge in the computer arena and learn new things every day…that I then share here at HelpMeRick.com.

Lastly, yes, I am thinking of running for president in 2016.

  9. Hi Rick,
